Work with Rosanna
ONE-ON-ONE THERAPY
I aim to empower you to recognize your own potential for healing that already exists within yourself. Our sessions will be collaborative as I will guide you in a way that helps you reconnect with yourself and your own innate knowledge regarding what you need. I tailor an approach that is personalized to you and emphasizes the reconnection to yourself and your body.
When approaching your healing process, it is easy to believe that you need to “work” on yourself and in turn try a myriad of things relating to personal, mental and spiritual development. This is rooted in the belief that there is something innately “wrong” with yourself that you need to “fix”. What I aim to do in my work is reframe this pattern of thinking to a more compassionate understanding that if there is pain and suffering, it doesn’t mean that something is wrong that needs fixing, it just means that something is requiring our attention. If we are constantly trying to “fix” ourselves, we are always going to find something else that we feel is wrong and the cycle never ends.
MY GOAL
My goal as a therapist is to help you stop striving to improve yourself but rather just to get to know yourself. I approach pain with a deep curiosity as to what it could be trying to tell you about yourself. An invitation to reconnect and discover more about who you are. An indication as to what needs attention. This enforces that our deepest pain and traumas do not make us weak, and we are not “less than” because of them, they are just showing us what needs attention. I want to show you that nothing is innately wrong. Trauma and pain is just an invitation to learn more about yourself. I want to help you uncover the real you and help you maintain and nurture that connection.
Psychologist DW Winnicott said that “It is a joy to be hidden, but a disaster to not be found.”
“Trauma victims cannot recover until they become familiar with and befriend the sensations in their bodies. Being frightened means that you live in a body that is always on guard. Angry people live in angry bodies. The bodies of child-abuse victims are tense and defensive until they find a way to relax and feel safe. In order to change, people need to become aware of their sensations and the way that their bodies interact with the world around them. Physical self- awareness is the first step in releasing the tyranny of the past.” - Bessel A. van der Kolk
Private Yoga
Yoga can be an important part of psychological and emotional health and highly effective in reestablishing a mind/body connection and accessing somatic healing. I have witnessed this in my own life and in the lives of my clients. I offer private yoga classes online and in-person in Johannesburg. One-on-one classes give me the opportunity to design a yoga practice that is aligned to your specific needs and intentions. This is rooted in 795 hours of teacher training qualifications in the styles of Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Kids and Teens yoga.
